MAIN CONCEPTS IN ISLAM
Islam is based on peace and submission to God, following the guidance given by Him through the prophets. Central to the faith is a strict monotheism: a belief that there is One Almighty God, the Creator of all that is. Muslims strive to live every aspect of their lives in accordance with this belief. Islam is often described as a “way of life” rather than merely a religious faith. God is never far from a Muslim's mind, and faith guides every decision and practice.
Muslims throughout the world share a common set of fundamental beliefs that are often described as “articles of faith.” These articles of faith form the foundation of the religion of Islam, and they are shared by Muslims regardless of sect or background. They include the central belief that there is only One God, as well as faith in His angels, His revealed books, the prophets God has sent to guide people, the Day of Judgment, and God's power over human destiny.
Faith in an Almighty Creator naturally leads a person to feel a sense of duty to worship and obey Him. In Islam, worship permeates daily life and is not limited to mere rituals. Muslims observe five formal acts of worship, which they refer to as the five pillars of Islam. Based on the foundation of faith, the pillars of Islam help build and structure a Muslim's daily life. The five pillars of Islam are the declaration of faith, prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and pilgrimage.
